Smarmy comments are smarmy, period. I will definitely accept that compliment any time! As for the earlier question about skill-related compliments. I like compliments in general, regardless of skill level. I recently danced with a lady whose basic body movement was so powerful and exhilarating. Yesterday I danced with a woman. We also danced earlier on a few occasions. It was not fun at all to try keeping up with flatteries instead of just enjoying the moment and the music.

I am passionate about encouraging LGBTQI people and their friends to participate in same-sex social dancing, which brings a huge sense of belonging, and contributes enormously to the mental health of a community that constantly suffers from discrimination. Partnering is hard enough as it is: You're trying to untangle technical snafus and synchronize your movements with those of another dancer, not to mention building the delicate trust required to catch and be caught, lift and be lifted. Throw a hostile or uncooperative partner into the mix, and you might wish you could take a pass on pas de deux. But don't give up!

What the fighting man needed during that tumultuous period were entities of beauty that informed them there was goodness left in this world worth fighting for. The girls who posed for pin-up purposes best represented the beauty that yet existed. So on their barracks walls were images of Betty Grable and Rita Hayworth. Painted on the outside of their aircraft were life-size copies of Jane Russell and Gene Tierney. In their duffel bags were photographs of Veronica Lake and Rochelle Hudson.

Partner dances are dances whose basic choreography involves coordinated dancing of two partners, as opposed to individuals dancing alone or individually in a non-coordinated manner, and as opposed to groups of people dancing simultaneously in a coordinated manner. At the prior to the s, many ballroom dance and folk dances existed in America. As jazz music developed at the start of the 19th century, African American communities in tandem developed Charleston and eventually Lindy Hop by the end of the s. Many cities had regular local competitions such as the Savoy Ballroom which accelerated the development and popularization of the dance.
